Module 3 Blog: Software Support Tools

Materials Generators

By just recently beginning to use google add-ons, I have found several that I know will be beneficial to me as a future teacher! One specific materials generator add-on I have found is the QR code generator. This is an efficient and easy way to create simple QR codes you can use in the classroom. All you have to do is choose the "add-ons" options and search for "QR code generator" and it will download onto your document! It will create multiple codes at a time so you can easily use this for small groups in the classroom!

Another great materials generator I enjoy and that would work great in the classroom is http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/student-interactives/printing-press-30036.html.
This website allows students to create various forms of student work such as brochures or flyers. According to the textbook, Integrating Educational Technology Into Teaching, "Even very young students are thrilled to produce and display their own personal books, which sometimes represent work produced over the course of a school year" (Roblyer, 2016, p.146).  Students are given the opportunity to plan and publish their work, giving them a sense of pride in what they have created along with learning something along the way!

Testing and Grading Tools

Grading papers can becoming overwhelming! JoeZoo Express offers an easy way to grade your students papers, make comments, and even create rubrics! I especially love how corrective feedback for the students is given. Teachers are even able to track student progress! All you have to do is go onto a google doc and access it through the add-ons tab! What an awesome tool!

My next grading tool I loved was https://goformative.com. Teachers can use this app with various other forms of software, such as google, google classroom, canvas, and clever. This is an amazing app for quizzes and tests because it gives feedback and provides a live feed for the teacher. You can test on all different areas of subjects and track areas where students are growing or struggling! This app will definitely be used in my classroom in the future!

Graphics Tools

When I think of graphics, I think of colorful pictures and writing. According to the text, Integrating Educational Technology Into Teaching, "graphic tools allow creation of illustrations for use in documents"(Roblyer, 2016, p.142). Word Cloud Generator does just that! This google add-on allows you to enhance your writing through colors, text size, and palette! This is great to have students practice their writing in a fun way!

The next graphics tool I would suggest is Yob. This google add- on allows students and teachers to create graphs onto their documents. This would be a wonderful feature to use during a math lesson to have students graph answers to equations. If you want to edit your graph later, you can even go back and edit it in the future!

Planning and Organizing Tools

I am someone who loves to have everything organized. I have to plan, plan, plan for whatever I am doing! A google add-on I found that is beneficial in organizing lesson plans is the Lesson Plan Tool for Docs. This add-on allows teachers to find information to add to their lesson plans! All of the information found on this website is aligned for k-12 students and common core! What a useful classroom tool to create new and exciting lessons!

Another great option from google add-ons is the Teacher's Assistant. You can easily create your lesson plans and send them from your google doc straight to your calendar! Simple as that! This is an easy way to keep all your lessons together in one place!

Research and Reference Tools

Spell-check is a popular tool when writing important documents. It is very easy to accidentally miss grammar mistakes when proofreading your paper. Language Tool is an easy way to quickly check mistakes and show corrections! Language Tool can correct grammar, spelling, and misuse of some homophones like their/there!

A great tool for students and teachers is the OneLook Thesaurus. It offers six different options of synonyms, triggers (words commonly associated with your search), rhymes, completes (finishes the half-typed word you have entered to give you more word options), adjectives, and nouns! If students need help on a specific subject at school, they can easily use this for various assignments, such as research papers or projects (Roblyer, 2016, p.142).

Comments

  1. All of these links seem very helpful! All of "these tools vary greatly in their purposes and the benefits they offer" (Roblyer, 2016, p.142). My favorite one you posted is Language Tool. You are right, it is hard to catch misuse of homophones. So it is nice to have a tool that helps with that.

  2. Goformative seems like a very useful testing tool to use in the classroom. Just as it states in the text "the capabilities of computerized testing systems let educators go beyond the limits of multiple-choice tests and make possible alternative assessments" (Roblyer, 2016, 156). When using this testing tool the teacher can see the answers the students choose while taking the test, compare them to other students answers, and easily review the answers at a later date. This makes it quicker and easier for teachers to assess the average knowledge of their students.

  3. I also chose Joezoo Express for my testing and grading tools. It seems like such a quick and efficient way to share feedback with students. Getting those grades back quickly can make a huge difference in showing a student what he or she needs to work on. How do you think that you would execute Teacher's Assistant in your classroom?
